1. Victoria issued an ultimatum to NSW Ice Hockey Association that either the Canadians, George Balork and Ken Tory, be withdrawn or the game was off. NSW pointed out there were no rules in the books prohibiting the playing of Canadians, and refused to allow another state to dictate the personnel of her team. A conference between the Victorian Association and Glaciarium management decided the Mebourne rink would not be available for interstate games if the Canadians played. NSW also attempted to be represented by English speed skater Freddie Tomalins, an English boy who had just won the NSW title. Victoria protested and Tomalins was replaced by J Douglas. 2. Hall-of-Famer Hap Holmes accompanied NSW on this trip "to gain knowledge of the standard of play, with the object of possibly returning next season with two professional American teams" (Sydney Morning Herald, 3 Aug 1938:20).

3. George E Balork (1912-1961) born Sep 14 1912 in Saskatoon Canada, became a US citizen, married Helen Johnson in 1951, died in Seattle Washington, USA in March 1961, age 48.

4. Canadian Ken Tory was selected but then said he was unable to play for business reasons. He was replaced by Jack Ridgeway. There is no record Tory played.

5. Victoria's coach was Fred Turner, the Canadian Trade Commissioner. Canadians Hugh Lloyd and Colin Hewitt played for Victoria. The Sydney press reported Lloyd represented Britain against Europe and Canada, but there is no known record. (Referee Thu 28 April 1938)

Selectors were Ted Molony and Ellis Kelly. Victoria named 12 players, the largest ever, including an emergency goalie and defender.
Pat Jackson was unavailable because he was on a business trip in New Zealand.
1st attacking line was Kelly, Mitchell, Hoyne and the 2nd was Massina, Cullen, White.
Lloyd of Queens Hockey Club, London, married Bette McEvoy of Elwood in Melbourne in 1941 then enlisted in the RAAF in February 1941. He was killed in an aircraft night practice accident in England in Feb 1943.
