Mr H W Allen (National Ice Skating Association of Australasia) described the winter sports at St Moritz, in Switzerland, and said that the company aimed at imitating the facilities there as far as possible. On the right is Mr Gordon Langridge, president of Ski Club Victoria, as he appeared on Monday, when he and J R Watson discovered a ski-run which they say alone made the trip worth while. On the left, members of the party are enjoying a close view of the snow-clad alps.

[4] The Argus, Aug 26th, 1918. Transcript: The fancy dress carnival at the Glaciarium on Saturday night attracted a large number of ice skaters and a much larger number of onlookers. In addition to the fancy dress display, were exhibitions of Continental pair skating by Mr and Mrs Ramsay Salmon, and International free skating by Mr Dunbar Poole, in which pirouetting on one and both feet was warmly applauded, and of particularly graceful skating by Messrs Dunbar Poole and Langley. A number of competitions were held, including the fancy dress display, for which prizes were awarded as follows: – Most striking costumes – Mrs Salmon; Most Original Ladies Costume – first, "Expeditionary Mall" and second, "Camouflage" (Miss D. Callaway); most original gentlemans's costume, "Departed Spirits", Mr E Murphy; best untailored costume "Henpecked", Mr Beer. During the evening skating prizes were also presented to the following: – Miss Doris Armytage, Ladies championship of Australia; Miss Doris Armytage, Sir John Grice's trophy for free skating (to be won three years consecutively); Miss G Riley and Mr Hal Jones, 16-step competition; Mrs Thompson and Mr G Langridge, waltzing; and Misses M and E (K?) Roche, pair edge skating.

[01] The Aerodrome Forum, Pavel Nemec, May 2011. Transcript: The Bristol A7198 was lost on the 3rd of May, 1918 with the crew of Lieutenant Jack K. Curwen-Walker and Corporal Neils P.B. Jensen after taking off from the squadrons Ramleh aerodrome at dawn. The Bristol inexplicably spun into the ground and crashed killing both pilot and observer. Curwen-Walker was previously with 2 Sqn AFC. Neils Jensen was a Danish sailor from Snejbjerg in Denmark. Jensen enlisted in the AIF as part of the 3rd Reinforcements. [02] The Ballarat Courier, Sat 11 May 1918, p 2. Transcript: Jack Keith Curwen-Walker, formerly of Windsor and late a flight lieutenant in the Australian Flying Corps, was killed in action in Palestine on 3rd April. The last letter received from him mentioned that his machine had been badly hit in action, but on that occasion he had landed unhurt. He was about 28 years of age, and was well known as a daring motor bicycle rider, and as such held some notable records. He joined the Flying Corps at its first inception at Point Cook, and soon showed himself to be a bold and enthusiastic airman. He was the eldest son of the late Mr Christian Curwen-Walker, of Conargo (N.S.Wl.) and his mother and sister reside in Malvern. He has two brothers and two cousins now on active service. Another cousin is Mr H. C. Curwen-Walker, of this city.
