BORN 8 OCTOBER 1984 in Sydney, Australia, to parents Brett and Vicky Kvisle. A defenseman, he attended Shore School and played over 380 games at the state and national levels, but is best known for coaching numerous junior state and national teams to success.

Kvisle began his career in the local Sydney leagues and played defence with the 2004 Sydney Bears in the national league. In 2005, he joined the inaugural season of the Blue Haven Rhinos, now known as the Central Coast Rhinos. Kvisle played alongside local D players such as Dave Dunwoodie, Nick Cleland, and Jayson Chalker. By 2007, he had become an alternate captain of the club alongside Chalker.

As of 2025, Kvisle had played nearly 280 games in the ECSL, averaging 0.9 goals and 1.4 penalty minutes per game. He also played over 90 games in the national league, averaging two penalty minutes per game.

In 2009, the Sydneysider was the coach of the Sydney Sirens in the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League, where he won a silver medal. That same year, he also coached the Under-15 state team.

From 2010 to 2018, he coached the Under-18 state side, winning the Tange Trophy four times (2012, 2013, 2016, and 2017). The rest were silver and a bronze medals.

Kvisle coached the Sydney Lightning and Sydney Sabres in the Australian Junior Ice Hockey League for ten seasons (from 2013 to 2020 and again in 2022 and 2023). His teams reached the gold medal game nine times, winning titles in 2014, 2016, 2019, and 2020. In 2013, he was awarded Coach of the Year by the national association.

In 2022, the coach joined the Sydney Ice Dogs, 14 years after he last played in the national league. The following year, he was appointed head coach, and in 2024, the Australian Ice Hockey League recognised him as Coach of the Year after leading the Sydney Ice Dogs from the bottom to eighth place in the standings in his second season.

Kvisle assisted Head Coach Dave Ruck with the Australian Under-20 squad at the past five Division 3 and 2B World Championships (from 2020 to 2025), winning a Division 3 Gold Medal in 2023. In 2025, he was appointed head coach and led the team to a Silver medal assisted by Stu Henly and Rod Wisco. At this point, Australian born players registered with overseas clubs represented half the team.

He achieved Level 1 Sports Trainer accreditation from Sports Medicine Australia in 2012 and Level 3 Coaching Certification in 2016. An accredited Ice Hockey referee, he served as a board member of the state association for five years and vice president of the East Coast Superleague for twelve years.

“He loves his Hockey with passion,” according to John Lavery, who campaigned with him on many occasions. ”A great mentor for many young men and women.”

Kvisle studied Sports Management at the University of Technology in Sydney. He is married to Annelie, whom he credits with half of his success. The former Sydney Sirens player was appointed Head Coach of the club for the 2025-26 Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League.

01. Historical Notes

[1] Australia has never won Gold in Division 2 of the IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship program. In 2023, the National Junior Team won a gold medal for third time, the last in 2004 and 2010, to return to Division II, where they played from 2011 to 2017.
