BORN APRIL 9TH 1943 at Lynton in Devon, England, to parents George and Helen, June married a "10-pound pom", Samuel Muller, on March 2nd 1963. Sam was born November 20th 1940 in Visakhapatnam, India, to Dutch-Indonesian parents, and moved to England in 1953 where he joined the merchant navy in 1955. The couple's daughter, Leah, was born in 1968 and son, Shaun, in 1972.

June began work in the Snack Bar at the new Ice World rink in Mirrabooka in 1982, the year four new ice hockey teams competed in what was really the state's inaugural international standard ice hockey competition. Larry Deghelli, a former Swedish Olympian, was the resident coach and the teams were the Flyers, Pirates, Bombers and Wildcats. She enticed her son Shaun from soccer to the rink and he made the Defris Trophy the next year. So it was she began fundraising for the boys.

If you were traveling overseas and in June's orbit in those years, more than likely you returned with a bottle of duty-free whiskey or a box of chocolates for a Snack Bar raffle. Then there were the mixed-and-matched knickers made from the rejects at Mrs Brown's factory, and knicker bags as well if you paid the extra. She organised Schweppes to sponsor the black state jackets and did the embroidery, stitched on the badges for the 50-year celebration of the Brown tournament when Connie Smith was tournament director.

She secured a huge Tiger mascot that traveled on every trip until the boys had enough and gifted it to the Royal Children's hospital. The few minutes allotted for drop-off turned into hours spent by the boys with the young patients. On a visit to Canada in 1995, she setup a license for importing blades duty-free and brought back tape and pucks. There was precious little she did not exploit so that the West Australian boys embarked on each interstate adventure at no personal cost. But it didn't stop there.

She catered the VIP Room at rink events with Peter and Brown's stock through her own catering company. Stockpiled the 24 free ice creams allotted by her work each day and gave them to the boys. Sat up the back of the stands collecting money. First-aided the boys minor cuts with a no-nonsense ultimatum of stitches or a Mickey Mouse band-aid. Her husband, Sam, was an off-ice official, responsible for the referees, lights and nets, and even operating the gate if no-one was there.

After Sam died on January 2nd 1990, the state association proposed he be made a Life Member, but the motion was not carried because he had only served 8 years of the 10 required. The family declined the award when it passed the following year. She moved the family to Melbourne in 1992, the year that marked 10 years of fundraising for local and interstate teams.

In 1993 the association made June a Life Member. In June's world, the two 'i's' in fundraising stood for inspiration and innovation, not imitation and irritation. She is not a Hockey Mum. She taught the joy of giving.

When June's son married, he insisted the wedding be on Sam's birthday. By 2018, June was grandmother to Velvet and Logan Pollard and Harper J Muller.
