FOR OVER TWENTY YEARS Scott Wilson has been a Strength and Conditioning Coach, Exercise Physiologist and Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist, starting as Assistant Coach and Trainer of the Australian National Women's Ice Hockey Team in 1999-2000. Wilson continued in the role for years implementing the training regimen of Coach Berg in Canada. At that time Kathy Berg was the Director of the International Female Hockey Program at the Olympic Oval in Canada.

Coach Berg did not have a deep pool of players to draw from in the relatively new local women's leagues in Australia, so their ages spread wide, as did their skill levels. Simply learning the game and its various systems was an obstacle, as was nutrition for performance and even the thrill of playing in a World Championship because some players had not travelled before.

Wilson trained the players and kept them together through competitions, and Berg has said she owes him a great deal of gratitude because he was probably the biggest reason for their success. The first camp for team selection stretched over twenty-one days at the Canterbury ice rink in Sydney, with only a half-day off. Three weeks of 30-plus temperatures and twenty-one ice sessions, team building, training, class sessions... the lot.

Coach Berg shared every aspect of her experiences training the best players in Canada. She said recently that "The success of the Women's program certainly was based on the passion and commitment of the athletes. I was blessed to have some very knowledgeable, passionate and committed staff who believed in the program and athletes.

"Scott Wilson was a key to our success. The bar was set high in all components of the program and strength training and conditioning was no exception. Year-round training programs prepared them for competition. Scott's skills for repair and recovery helped them achieve on ice".

Wilson has since worked with the Australian Sevens, the International Rugby Board, and as Rehabilitation Coordinator and a Sports Physiotherapist for the AFL Adelaide Crows. A final year Sports and Exercise Registrar on the Specialisation Training Program through the Australian College of Physiotherapists, Scott taught in the Master of Sports Medicine Program for the University of Melbourne in 2021.
